Look Lust-Worthy - Tried, Tested and Recommended

While I rarely find myself drawn to flashy make-up looks, I recently found myself enamoured with the idea of the classic red lip. My commitment to trying out the red lip was cemented after seeing the beautiful Garance Dore kill the look in her recent “Le Chop” video (http://www.garancedore.fr/en/2013/09/18/le-chop/).

Today, I would like to present my personal recommendation for a good red lip stick – MAC’s Russian Red.

Unlike other red lipstick formulations which I have tried, I found that Russian Red was flattering to my skin tone – it didn’t veer too orange and was complimentary to the cooler base of my skin. I also found the lipstick easy to apply – while it is not a glossy formula and goes on quite matte, the lipstick slid on well and was quite opaque, thus requiring little effort and few reapplications to ensure that I got the vibrant colour that I wanted.

Once applied, Russian Red demonstrated good staying power and did not bleed.

The one downside of the lipstick that I would like to highlight is that I did not find the formula to be moisturizing. Priming my lips with a good lip balm (such as Baume de La Mer) has proven to be essential whenever I decide to rock my Russian Red lip.

Has any of you tried MAC’s Russian Red? Do you yay or nay it? Do you have any suggestions for perfecting the classic red lip?

MAC’s Russian Red is available in stores and online for $15 at http://www.maccosmetics.com/
